This is a letter from my mother, Cordelia Phelan Morrison, to my
father, Preston Reece Morrison, on Dec 30, 1944.

Dearest Hubby,
Hon we are all getting along just fine here at home & I do
hope you are fine two.
I don't know why but I keep looking for you home every day
but I have been looking for you home the last month every since I
got that letter from Sgt. Sellers & he said you would be home in
two more months. Well I just look for you to walk in just any
minute. he also said you had all of your missions in. So hon if
you have, you shouldn't half to stay over there till May. he said
he left you in Nov 11, but the last letter I got from you was
wrote Nov 20, & you wrote like you still had two more mission to
make & you wouldent be home till May. Mabe you are trying to
supprise me. I hope hon you to be home with us again. would
almost be

impossible to believe & you here with us. It seams like you have
been gone or years. Hon Pumpkin & I would be two of the happiest
person every was to have you home with us again & may God keep
you safe & let you come home soon.
Pumpkin has just wake up & is trying to eat her rag doll up.
Most of her toys I can't let her play with because she trys to
eat them up. Mebe when she gets all of her teeth cut she wont do
that she has got another little tooth almost through. So that
will make her 7 teeth. she sure is slow about cutting her teeth
but that all she is slow about & she sure learns things fast &
most of all the things she shouldent learn.
Mrs. Morrison learn her to walk like you used to you know
when you used to mock the old crippled negro but when we want
Pumpkin to walk that way we just

say to her Pumpkin walk tired and old & she will just take off
with one hand on one knee & all hump over. My she is some gal she
still suck the bottle & would suck my tit if I would let her have
it & she can spit as big as you please & blow her nose two & wink
at you but she always blinks both eyes. She can say several
things when she will she can say Iretta & Thedia & baby. She
talks to her dolls all the time & sings to them & rocks them in
her little chair and hon she still looks like you & is very
pretty.
Iretta & Thedia went home yesterday we all three had our
picture made together while they were here will send you one when
I get them. I am going to have a big picture made of Pumpkin in
a few days.
Verrell is still here but will go back to school tomorrow he
will finish up about the middle of

Jan. So I guess he will go to work then. Proble end up getting
married to. That is just my guess to who I don't know.
Well hon one more day will end 1944. So guess we are not
going to get to be together this New Year. We were traveling
this time last year on our way home but it looks like no hubby
this New Year. But just so he gets home safe is all that really
matters.
Hon I must stop as there is no news to write about oh yes we
just got the Pryor paper & your picture was in it with a big
write up was very good mabe you will get it. I hope so.
