Samuel and Mary Franklin Hatfield's daughter, Lizzie Hatfield, married to Rev. Jacob M. Marcum. This was Jacob's third marriage. Jacob had two sons by his first wife -- Isaac Marcum and Joseph M. Marcum. Isaac fought in the 45th Kentucky Mounted Infantry, U.S.A. during the Civil War, while Joe was a sergeant in the Confederate Army. Joe is buried in the Marcum Cemetery on Tick Ridge in Wayne Co., WV.   Rev. Jacob M. Marcum was the brother of Moses D. Marcum, and was the son of Jacob "Jingo Jake" Marcum and Rhoda Saddler Marcum. Jacob Marcum, Sr. was the son of Josiah Marcum.   In the Hardesty Book for Wayne Co., WV, an entire article is written on Jacob M. and Lizzie Hatfield Marcum's family. Their oldest daughter, Rhoda Jane Marcum, married Elias "Aly" Perry, and was my GGgrandmother. According to Hardesty, Samuel Hatfield was in the War of 1812. I have a copy of his war records from the National Archives, wherein it details that Samuel was a sharpshooter in the riggings of the ship "Niagra" during the Battle of Lake Erie. An interview between General William Henry Harrison, Commodore Oliver H. Perry, and Samuel Hatfield is included in these war records. A copy of Samuel's discharge from Ft. Malden in Ontario, Canada (after the death of Tecumseh) is included in the war records.   Jacob M. and Lizzie Hatfield Marcum are buried on Tick Ridge in Wayne Co., WV.   Zane D. Perry, GGGGgrandson of Samuel Hatfield zanedperry@@hotmail.com June 14, 1999 at 11:51:39 ------------------------------ The 1809 Floyd County Court records includes the following:   1809-Patsy Hatfield improperly listed her son Samuel as a tithable in the levy of 1808. Court orders son exempt.   It is noted that Martha (Patsy) Hatfield was the only head of house in Floyd County for the 1810 census.   Samuel was also executor of John's estate.   http://genforum.genealogy.com/hatfield/messages/1429.html ------------------------------ name: Samuel Hatfield event place: Not Stated, Floyd, Kentucky page number: 92 nara publication number: M19 nara roll number: 36 film number: 0007815 digital folder number: 004410759 image number: 00186 Citing this Record   "United States Census, 1830," index and images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XHPB-KW8 : accessed 18 Feb 2013), Samuel Hatfield, Not Stated, Floyd, Kentucky; citing p. 92, NARA microfilm publication M19, roll 36. ------------------------------------ name: Samuel Hatfield residence: Not Stated, Floyd, Kentucky page number: 276 nara publication number: M704 nara roll number: 110 film number: 0007825 digital folder number: 004409670 image number: 00561 Citing this Record   "United States Census, 1840," index and images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XHT8-BQJ : accessed 18 Feb 2013), Samuel Hatfield, Not Stated, Floyd, Kentucky; citing p. 276, NARA microfilm publication M704, roll 110. ------------------------------------- name: Samuel Hatfield event: Census event date: 1850 event place: Floyd county, Floyd, Kentucky, United States gender: Male age: 57 marital status: race (original): race (standardized): birthplace: Virginia estimated birth year: 1793 dwelling house number: 823 family number: 823 line number: 5 nara publication number: M432 nara roll number: 200 film number: 442968 digital folder number: 004192490 image number: 00135 Household Gender Age Birthplace Samuel Hatfield M 57 Virginia Mary Hatfield F 42 North Carolina John Hatfield M 34 Kentucky Owen Hatfield M 31 Kentucky Alta Hatfield F 28 Ohio Samuel Hatfield M 16 Kentucky Martha Hatfield F 14 Kentucky Susan Hatfield F 13 Kentucky Shadrick Hatfield M 11 Kentucky William H Hatfield M 9 Kentucky   Citing this Record https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-266-11631-308983-64?cc=1401638 "United States Census, 1850," index and images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/M65S-7ZL : accessed 28 Oct 2012), Samuel Hatfield in household of Samuel Hatfield, Floyd county, Floyd, Kentucky, United States; citing dwelling 823, family 823, NARA microfilm publication M432, roll 200 ----------------------------------------- Name: Samuel Hatfield Event Type: Census Event Year: 1860 Event Place: , Floyd, Kentucky, United States Gender: Male Age: 67 Race: White Birth Year (Estimated): 1793 Birthplace: Virginia Page: 1 Affiliate Name: The U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) Affiliate Publication Number: M653 Household Role Gender Age Birthplace Samuel Hatfield M 67 Virginia Mary Hatfield F 40 North Carolina John Hatfield M 43 Kentucky William H Hatfield M 17 Kentucky Household ID: 2 , GS Film Number: 803367 , Digital Folder Number: 004230646 , Image Number: 00105 Citing this Record   "United States Census, 1860," index, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MZB3-3QB : accessed 15 April 2015), Samuel Hatfield, , Floyd, Kentucky, United States; from "1860 U.S. Federal Census - Population," database, Fold3.com (http://www.fold3.com : n.d.); citing p. 1, household ID 2, NARA microfilm publication M653 (Washington, D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, n.d.); FHL microfilm 803,367 ------------------------------------------ name: Samuel Hatfield estimated birth year: 1793 gender: Male age in 1870: 77y color (white, black, mulatto, chinese, indian): White birthplace: Virginia home in 1870: Kentucky, United States Household Gender Age Birthplace Samuel Hatfield M 77y Virginia Mary Hatfield F 80y [sic 50] North Carolina Citing this Record   https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-266-11602-76721-54?cc=1438024 "United States Census, 1870," index and images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/MXW9-34M : accessed 18 Feb 2013), Samuel Hatfield in household of Samuel Hatfield, Kentucky, United States; citing p. 5, family 27, NARA microfilm publication M593, FHL microfilm 0545960.
