Peter *Heck" Cline by albert Cline. Peter first settled on
Horeepen, but later moved to the Gilbert Fork, where he died in
1893. His body lies in an unmarked graved opposite where his
grandson, Mont Cline, lived, behind Eddie Smith*s.
As a young men Peter did much hunting. At one time he bought
a bridle and saddle with 13 cured deer hams and still had 20 left,
so stated Albert Cline, as e boy, who lived with his grandfather.
Albert Cline also told that Peter, as a lad of 15 years,
whipped his sister before going hunting, because she would not get
his breakfast. He then stayed in the woods alone for 12 days
before he came home.
Anthony Cline, son of Jacob and Cynthia Cline, married Thursa
Cline, and at the ege of 17 was drafted into the Confederate Army
but deserted and was never in a battle. He slipped away from camp
on the Clinch Valley just before they planned to join General
Robert E. Lee at Richmond. In the winter time and at night, while
the soldiers were sleeping, hs slipped away and walked more than
100 miles the next few days. He traveled on the ice down Dry Fork
of the Tug River.
