George Hatfield, Jr [11371] Details

George Hatfield, Jr [A4719] b.1752 ca - Va d. - ----- Parents ----- George Hatfield [A1] ----- Siblings ----- Joseph Hatfield [A2] Jeremiah Hatfield [A4512] George Hatfield, Jr [A4719] John Hatfield [A5458] ----- Marriages ----- m01. 1794 Bef. - + Sarah Ann ? (3 Children) ----- Children ----- Abner Hatfield [A4721] Ralph Hatfield [A4865] Lynch Hatfield [A5213]
Am arbitrarily labelling this man George Jr. since he was given as son of George in 1771. By Lee Co., VA, tax lists, of the 1800+ time period, he would have sons Abner, Ralph & Lynch. All 3 of these move to Claiborne Co, TN., with Abner & Ralph going on to Hawkins Co, TN, in later years. See TN Census listing.     Book: HANCOCK CO, TN, AND ITS PEOPLE 1844-1989, pub. 1989 by Hancock Co. Hist. Soc....has article on Abner on p. 119 which does mention his father George. At any rate, oldest son Abner has birth given as 1781 in this article, suggesting that his father George would have been born bef. 1760 in order to be old enough to marry & have children. George was on the 1771 Botetourt Co. tax list. so b. 1750 or bef. Since his father George had at least 2 sons aged 21+ in 1771, George Sr. would then be born 1730 or bef. and therefore less likely to sire and raise Abner, Ralph & Lynch. Lynch was b. 1790 according to the 1850 Census of Claiborne Co, TN.     TAX LIST: 1771; VA; Botetourt Co.; Tithables; list of Robert Doak George Hatfield, sons GEORGE & Jeremiah   (Note: Sons born before 1750 in order to be tithable)     LAND PURCHASE: VA; Fincastle Co.; Michael L. Kentucky did not reach statehood until 1792, but even while we were still a part of Virginia, the hearty pioneers were blazing out trails into this wonderful commonwealth. According to Collins, the following is a "large portion of those who were enrolled as pioneer soldiers of Kentucky." The clerk caught and crossed out "Gof" at the beginning of the deed and "was acknowledged" in the proof at the bottom. In between there are several repetitions he did not notice. Given this many errors, this record cannot stand as proof that George had a middle name "Gof."]   [NOTE: The name "Gof" appears only once when this name is written in the first lines of the document and is very clearly scratched out by the clerk who copied the deed into the book and the word "Hatfield" is then written as though the clerk erred and caught himself. This certainly does not stand as proof that this was his name since the signature at the bottom of the doucment does not include "Gof" at all, nor is it repeated elsewhere.]   [http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=lesliesc&id=I10 425]
